Bringin' It Back: February 2007

So, today, I was looking at my old make-up pictures, and decided to 'reincarnate' some past looks. My camera was not good, and my skills were definitely not up to par! We've all experienced this in make-up, right? It'll be like playing Michael J. Fox in 'Back to the Future', but, in a cosmetic way. About four years ago, I was 17, and a junior in high school. I was a full-fledged make-up-addict-in-training. My clothes didn't matter. My hair didn't matter. The colors I put on my face made my day happen. MAC was my new religion! I tended to skip on hanging out with friends, to save on gas, to buy new make-up. Aquadisiac eyeshadow was my favorite thing in those days! Not any kind of blue. A bright, neon-aqua with plenty of white shimmer for every body. Today, I broke it out to bring back this look:
Revlon Colorstay in 150 Buff
MAC Enough Said Beauty Powder Blush

Urban Decay Primer Potion
MAC Aquadisiac, Patina, Orb, Vanilla, Deep Truth, Carbon eyeshadows
MAC Vanilla pigment
Wet n' Wild Taupe brow pencil
Wet n' Wild MegaVolume mascara

Red Lipstick.

Ah, one of the best things a person could ever own, red lipstick. I've been wanting to swatch mine for you guys for a while now. I know it comes off as an intimidating color to wear, but, I believe everyone has a red lipstick out there for them. Today, I swatched my nine red lipsticks varying in warm and cool tones, as well as bright to dark hues. About half of them were limited edition, or discontinued, but it goes to show how many red lipsticks there are out there!
And, my little Red Lipstick Wish List includes:
MAC Viva Glam I
• Chanel Dragon Rouge Allure Laque
• Revlon Matte Really Red
• NYX Snow White

Failnicure NOTD, 01.29.11

This week, I subscribed to another at least 20 nail bloggers, including Chloe's Nails. She posted one of my favorite technique and color combinations I've ever seen! It's properly-titled, Neon Rays. After trying my hand at it, I realized that I needed to pull them off right after the top layer was painted. Instead, I waited a few minutes, and got this result:So, I tried to save it and turned into this. Unfortunately, I was on
my way out the door, so, I had to settle with this!

Moral of the story: Always read directions through and through! :)

Zoya haulin'!

Earlier this month, I made two orders for Zoya's Facebook-Three-Free event. The other day, I received two packages containing five out of six of my new babies. Unfortunately, my most-anticipated deep grey, Kelly, is back-ordered in the meantime. But, the other five are super gorgeous! I got Nina, Envy, Pinta, Yummy, and Malia. I'll also be posting a manicure in the next couple days, so, watch out for that!
My friend also did two orders. Her chosen six were Cheri, Celine, Valerie, Kalista, Mikka, and Raven.

MAC Wonder Woman collection, Feb. 2011.

So, I'm obsessed, people. Ever since I've heard about the Wonder Woman collection, that was it. Although I'm not a comic book reader, I've always enjoyed the illustration and the art. The bold lines, colors, and contrast just tug at my heart! When I heard MAC was coming out with Wonder Woman, shew. July was when I first heard, and I remember ever time some one came home, I'd tell them the news. Now, the packaging is getting a little flack. I can agree to a point. The plastic does look cheap with the metallic paint, but, I still think it's wonderful. The colors all pop out and look nuts. Just like looking at a comic. Recently, Temptalia posted her review and awesome swatches of all the products. She also did a video showcasing everything as well! Luckily, she helped narrow down my wishlist to Spitfire Lipstick, Athena's Kiss Lipglass, and Blush Duo in Mighty Aphrodite (such a cute name!).
Now, I did some swatches of four products being released Wonder Woman. They are Russian Red lipstick, Bright Fuchsia pigment, Marina Ultra pigment, and Reflects Pearl glitter.
What do you guys think of this collection? And, are you planning to buy anything?

Ben Nye Lumiere Luxe Powder swatches!

Time for some Ben Nye action! A few years back, I bought some samples of their Lumiere Luxe Powders in six colors. It was in the Grande Lumiere-craze, where everyone was salivating over their 12-pan Lumiere palette. I figured it'd be better to get some cheap samples of basically the same palette. And, these colors are really lovely! I bought my samples a few years back for $2 per 1/4-ish of a teaspoon. You can buy full-size jars ($9.99 for 6 grams) at Funhouse. Or, if you want to do samples, Marlena over at makeupgeek sells them for $2.19 per 1/4 tsp! If you're looking for something colorfully inexpensive, Ben Nye is it!

Kryolan Eye Dust swatches!

A couple years ago, I got into the Kryolan-hype after Josh (petrilude) and Leesha (xsparkage) did some really beautiful looks using their Eye Dusts. These pigments are truly amazing. Kryolan is a theatre, and special effects-based company, but their products are great for daily use. I bought these through Amy, also known as Shrinkle. She is also the creator of the infamous Sugarpill! She still sells Kryolan products, and Sugarpill, through her ebay account, shrinkle. They retail for $7 for 3 grams of products. I split these with a friend, and still have a life-time supply of each color! Here are pictures and swatches.

Gold, Raspberry Pink, Robin's Egg Blue, Midnight Blue, and Gunmetal Grey.
same order as above.

Roarin' Twenties, 01.21.11

For ages now, I've wanted to do a look based on the twenties. All-out hollowed eyes, lashes, drawn brows, baby lips, and fingerwaves. And, today, I gave it a whirl! There wasn't many pictures of blonde flappers, so I went and found a good picture of my girl, Jean Harlow. If there were one person to rock the drawn-on brows forever and ever, it'd be Jean. Unfortunately, it didn't look near as good on me. But, it's all in fun! The eyeshadow ended up looking extremely washed out, and muddy in the photos. One day, I'm going to come back and conquer this look!

Silent Treatment, 01.17.11

In my recent Wet n' Wild haul, I ended up leaving one item out on accident! It's one of Wet n' Wild's new trios, (335) Silent Treatment. They came out with a whole slew of products for the springtime, and I happened to stumble across it that day! Each trio is $3, I believe. Not bad for the quantity, or the quality. Although I'm not one for an all-shimmer palette, this one has a very good combo of colors. Silent Treatment has a light pink-peach highlight, a dark brown-almost-black with copper shimmer, and an ultra-shimmery taupe. My favorite is the taupe. The texture can make it look like a ticking glitterbomb. But, apply it just to the lid, blend it out with a nude shadow, and add some liner. Then, it would make a great every-day look. Besides my swatches and look, I know Scrangie posted some a few days back here, as well. Enjoy!

Alice in a Winter Wonderland, 01.19.11

Another round of snow is hitting my area right now. Our last snow, a week ago, didn't even have the chance to melt off! It actually ended up being a good thing because I've been wanting to do an Alice in Wonderland-inspired look. And, in the end, I loved the idea of my bright reds and blues against the pure snow. It's like graffiti on a wall! For the look, I mainly used Kryolan's 'Robin Egg Blue' Eye Dust, and MAC's Reflects Teal for the highlights. I've been neglecting my Kryolan Eye Dusts for way to long! Swatches of them will be posted soon.
On to the snowy-goodness!

Runway: Spring 2011's Big Hitters

Yes, here it is. My favorite season of all is upon us in almost two months. Spring, spring, spring! What really makes me feel better is when I see all the color heading down the runway. I can't wait to break out of my leggings and worn out moccasins for the season! Besides clothes, the fresh-faced models make a huge difference as well. The look of moisture and hydration beats the dull, dry, winter-face any day, in my book. Although most of the true make-up worn had a dark-feel, it still meshed with the outfits very well. Chanel stuck with a panda-eye, and a defined hair part marked with some sort of eye liner. Different, for sure! Dior did the 40's routine, but very perfected and staying bold while at it. Marc Jacobs had what I'd like to call a 'seventies gothique' look. Louis Vuitton did the smoldery rusts and coppers complete with the one-eye-reveal. Nina Ricci did some romantic pinks with neutralized brows. And, finally, Zac Posen. What else are you going to do after a cold, dreary season? Choose several bright hues and blend them all over the face. The perfect way to rid the winter blues!
